For Fall/Winter 17/18, Kiev-based brand THEO has created what designer Theo Dekan describes as “a very emotional collection” full of striking silhouettes.
Each piece of this active urban chic collection is a careful exercise of form and function designed to espouse and flatter the wearer’s shape. Structured constructed sleeves on shirts and jackets add drama and feminine looks are offset with bright, solid colors and prints. Shoulders have been emphasized and waists have been cinched with wide belts.
The palette ranges from lighter hues of pink, green and yellow right through to darker coals, blues and blacks. Pieces are adorned in an array of floral prints – more specifically hydrangea and roses – in various shades such as blue, green and magenta as well as stripes in contrasting colours.
The designer has played heavily with volume and architectural cuts and pieces feature fit and flare hemlines, relaxed bloomer cuts, flounces and ruffles.
The collection is also rich in textures; paper fabrics, different cottons, denim and knits amongst others are present in both matte and metallic finishes. Looks have been accessorized with plastic film earrings and shoes from the collection, made of neoprene, gold leather, transparent plastic and colored net.
The oversized hats inspired by anime character Sailor Moon and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland are designed to give the collection a childish side, as though the wearer is a child wearing adult’s clothing. This fragile touch adds to the emotion and potency of what is clearly an intriguingly harmonious collection.
