The idea behind ‘Freedom’ the SS18 collection by designer Marcel Ostertag is the appreciation of every minute in life. This inspiring collection was presented during Mercedes-Benz fashion week Berlin at ‘Delight Studios’ in the heart of Berlin Mitte. The main idea behind the collection is all about enjoying life in any way we can. What would you do if you had only 24 hours to live? Marcel Ostertag has a certain opinion on the subject and that is what inspired and encouraged him to create the collection. This was already explored by the German designer in his previous collection ‘Revolution’ where he called us to slow down and focus on what matters in life.

This ongoing theme is now approached in a slightly different way. The catwalk was transformed into a party mainly through the use of brilliant colour combination with a clear nod to the 70’s, symbolising the celebration of life. Insect details and prints are used to emphasise the theme – applied in different ways, as a detail or on the entire garment. In that sense, scarab beetles symbolize eternity and infiniteness. other insects seen in the Spring/ Summer 2018 collection signify life and flow of change. The fauna pops up in delicate embroidery and is printed on only the very finest fabrics, such as cotton and silk.
Femininity is celebrated with fluttering floating dresses, mini-skirts combined with wide tunics and transparent blouses embellished with tassel details. A favourite piece, the trench coat, made an appearance in various innovative versions from a skirt to a modified cocktail dress. There is a high quality feel to the garments which are all produced and made in Germany. The perfect shoes are teamed with all those pieces and this season, once again, Marcel Ostertags continues his cooperation with the shoe brand Tamaris. The Marcel Ostertag X Tamaris collaboration will be available in stores and online from the end of August 2017.
