Hofmann SS20 – Modern Romantic

Designer Heidi Hofmann presented her labels’s Hofmann Copenhagen SS20 collection ‘Modern Romantic’ at Copenhagen Fashion Week celebrating strong and unique women – Two in particular: Peggy Guggenheim and Edie Bouvier. Both women who remain relevant and modern and who confronted prejudice and the expectation of society.

The collection is heavily inspired by the 1940’s as seen through the 1970’s and brought up to a contemporary look. Strong shoulders, puffy sleeves, frills and ruffles play an important role in the collection and are used to bring contrast to the clean silhouettes. The garments are meant be worn in an easy nonchalant manner mixing prints and shapes. The addition of headscarves and sandals evoke a casual, vacation house dressing. The tightly bound headscarves are a loving tribute to Edie Bouvier’s famous look, and the prints to Peggy Guggenheim – a maximalist who loved the bold prints.

The signature kiss print for the Hofmann Copenhagen SS20 collection is inspired by a 16th century Turkish vase from the David’s Collection. The print has also been embroidered on airy organza used for sheer shirts and dresses, while the newly developed chequered print is inspired by a 1970’s shirt found in London.

The colour palette is of natural tones paired with vibrant colours such as  sky blue, fiery red and emerald green. It’s all about mixing colours – chequered print in a red/pink version or black/beige both play a great contrast to the more softly coloured rose print.

Sustainability is the overarching ethos of Hofmann Copenhagen and through the patchwork styles the brand makes sure all fabrics produced are used. ‘We want to produce clothes that last more than one season yet remain contemporary. We achieve this through our design that features well-made details that are appreciated through wear and through the use of high quality fabrics’  said the show notes.

With a clear and innovative identity surrounding the collection, Hofmann Copenhagen SS20 collection is bold, sophisticated and feminine with artistic references, designed for strong women of all ages who are not afraid to stand out.
