Taiwanese designer APUJAN turns his attention this season to crime and mystery novels. His AW19 collection, presented at London Fashion Week paid tribute to sci-fi literature in his an original story created using many details and elements in the pieces that pay homage to authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen, Higashino Keigo and Isaka Kotaro.
The elements used are hidden in the prints and jacquard materials of the designs, including opened letters, black cats, train tracks, playing cards, pipes, chess pieces, puzzles, pocket-watches, flowers, chocolate and lamb. The detective story still includes the elements that Apu Jan likes to express in his creations, such as time travel, fantasy, dinosaur fossils, fantastic creatures, flowers, keys and open pages.
The style continues with the designer’s signature oriental details and western contours, alongside additional elements that draw on the traditions of fantasy and imagination. The pieces include details of traditional costumes such as hand-woven woollen hats, scarves, silk-knit open-front jackets and irregular hollow style knit tops. Even the dismantled pages of detective novels have been transformed to a digital print which is depicted on several of the garments.
APUJAN continues to test many different types of fabric development, such as digital embroidery, semi 3-D jacquard fabric and delicate knitted jacquard, which have been paired with pure wool, pure silk, pure cotton and other yarns.
Once again, APUJAN has collaborated with NIKE this season in footwear. The latest Air Max 720, 2019 new style Air VaporMax, Air Max 90 and 95 series appered on the catwalk. The special planetary shoe clips developed by APUJAN are also used as accessory on the shoes.
