Independent Paris based brand Afterhomework presented their AW19 collection at Paris Fashion Week. The brand was founded by Pierre Kaczmarek when he was an high school student in 2014. Kaczmarek was later joined by his girlfriend, stylist Elena Motola. Both now 19 and 20 years old, the duo present a modern visionary silhouettes influenced mostly by streetwear and the city of Paris.
The unisex collection was inspired mostly from Social media, radio, TV and rap music, ‘our inspiration comes from what is happening around us’ they explain on the show notes.
Kaczmarek is also inspired by French artist Pierre Soulages, which he admired from childhood. One of the artists quotes “It is what I do that teaches me what I am looking for” is the résumé of the brand’s creative process.
The designs mix streetwear and couture techniques with a futuristic eye. Silhouettes are daily clothes whose volume has been reworked. Poor materials are used such as wool, cotton stitched, rope, nylon, corduroyor K-way, appearing with subtle touches of femininity. Details such as drawstrings, shiny fabrics, asymmetrical slits and ruched designs are teamed with sandals or with colourful Converse All Stars -combining between sporty and classic.
Colours of the collection are like Paris on a dark and stormy night: grey, blue and green hues.
