Africa Fashion Week London is Europe’s largest fashion event promoting African-inspired talents. The annual Fashion event which took place at Freemason’s hall in the heart of Covent Garden, London, was founded in 2011 and slowly becomes a highlight on the European fashion calendar. AFWL is highlighting a unique and fashion-forward catwalk collective and aiming to create a global platform for African and African inspired designers to showcase their latest designs. This 2-day event brings together fashionistas and influential industry professionals from around the world and is now established as Europe’s most important African-inspired fashion event.
This season creations were ranging in style merging traditional African outfits with sporty aesthetic. Presenting interesting combinations of patterns and fabrics, colours were vibrant and silhouettes extravagant at times, raw and eye catching. Even more subtle shapes stood out due to Abstract prints and flashy hues using a myriad of colours from bright yellow, turquoise, red and gold to more subdued colours like ivory and grey. This year AFWL brings a very interesting addition to the London fashion scene and offers an insight into cultures through garments and designs.
